The Apuan Alps in northwest Italy, close to Carrara, are the source of the off-white or blue-gray marble known as Carrara marble. Carrara marble has been used historically for statues and enormous public and commercial structures. However, Carrara marble is increasingly more frequently found in private residences.
The Carrara marble’s core, or field, has hazy bluish undertones and is light gray in color. The veins, which are stripes, are also light gray. A little bit darker than the field are the veins.
The veins in Carrara marble are not overt, but rather subtle. They are soft, wet, or fluffy instead. Veins of Carrara marble appear to go on forever and disappear into the background.
