Rather than repeating one material throughout the house, this Sydney villa uses different stones where they make the most sense. Calacatta White keeps the kitchen light and restrained, Carrara White mosaics bring quiet texture to the bathrooms, Laylac marble is used where a stronger visual statement is welcome, and Journey Stone adds contrast in a darker feature area.
The challenge was not simply to supply several different stones. They still had to feel like part of the same home. The kitchen called for a lighter, quieter stone. Calacatta White was used across the large benchtop, where its soft grey veining sits naturally against the white cabinetry without making the open-plan space feel too busy. Carrara White mosaics were used where the bathroom needed more surface detail, but not more visual weight. The smaller format breaks up the wall gently and still works with the cabinetry, fittings and overall neutral palette. The smaller pieces create rhythm and texture up close, while the soft Carrara colouring keeps the wall connected to the rest of the bathroom rather than turning it into a separate statement.
Unlike the softer Carrara bathrooms elsewhere in the villa, this space was allowed to feel more expressive. Laylac marble brings stronger violet-grey movement to both the wall and vanity, giving the room a clear focal point while staying within the house’s overall light material direction.

Journey Stone was used in a feature area where the surrounding cabinetry and shelving are noticeably darker. That setting gives the stone’s natural pattern more room to stand out, creating depth without forcing the same light-marble language used in the kitchen and bathrooms into a space where it would feel less natural.
In this bathroom, the stone treatment is intentionally quieter. Natural marble continues across the main surfaces, while the walls, vanity elements and surrounding details are kept visually connected. The result feels bright and settled rather than overly decorative.
The materials were not chosen to match one another exactly. Instead, each was used where its colour, scale and natural pattern suited the space, while the detailing and fabrication were coordinated across the project.
