In its natural state, quartz is a crystalline mineral composed of silicon and oxygen. Colorless, transparent, extremely rich in the crust, has always been listed as semi precious stones. It has not been used in architecture, at least until the 20th century, when technological progress brought artificial stone. Although mineral quartz exists naturally, the building material of the same name is not.
